In Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya and Brazil, most consumers reach for a mobile wallet, an instant bank transfer or a QR scheme long before they reach for a card. A checkout that only offers international cards is effectively closed to the majority of the market.
Method mix beats method count
Adding twenty methods to a checkout does not help if the top three in that market are missing. In practice, a small, correct set of local methods per country delivers the bulk of the volume, and everything else is long tail.
Local UX matters as much as local rails
Wallet redirects, one-time codes, deep links to mobile apps and QR flows each carry their own drop-off patterns. Presenting the right method in the right order, in the local language and currency, consistently outperforms a generic global checkout.
Coverage should extend to payouts
Marketplaces, gig platforms and gaming operators need to send money back out through the same wallets and bank rails they collect from. Matching collection and payout coverage in each market avoids expensive workarounds later.
